Our History
In 2021, a group which had been studying together, “The Benedict Option” by Rod Dreher, at the Broad Street Grind in Souderton felt called to plant a new Anglican church within our community. Following several public meetings to organize the new church, the first public services were held at 191 Allentown Road in a historic, one-room schoolhouse on September 12, 2021. Under the leadership and oversight of Bishop Julian Dobbs and the Anglican Diocese of the Living Word, Deacon Phil Shade was appointed Dcn-in-charge of the new plant. On March 6, 2022, the church had it’s first Episcopal visitation by assisting Bishop William Love and 2 members were confirmed by the Bishop. In December, 2022, Bishop Julian Dobbs made an Episcopal visitation and 2 more adults were confirmed. During that visit the Bishop also dedicated the church’s new portative pipe organ which had been donated.
In May of 2022, the Wardens requested Bishop Dobbs to appoint a Vicar for the new plant. Reverend Geoffrey Firth began as the appointed Vicar in October of 2023 and we look forward to this next chapter in our church history. In December 2022, the church began a program of Choral Evensongs in Advent and Lent each year, and continues the weekly book study at the Broad Street Grind in Souderton PA.
Today, St. Peter’s Anglican continues to grow, centered on the gospel and the word of God, with a strong communal life, and beautiful, reverent worship in the Anglican tradition. We are folks who love the Bible and appreciate deeply the historic liturgical style of worship. We come from all walks of life, varying personal histories, family backgrounds and situations, ethnicities, professions, and more.
